Harusame Observation Deck

Viewpoint

On the cold stormy night of November 24, 1911, the Japanese Navy destroyer Harusame sank in a storm in the sea below the monument. The townspeople were only able to rescue 20 of the 64 member crew. More than 100 years later, a memorial service for those who lost their lives in the accident is still held every year by local residents. The observation deck is fitted with a bell named the “Bell of Eternity.”
