Inner Toba

Toba Castle Ruins

Viewpoint

This site was once home to the castle of Kuki Yoshitaka, regarded as one of Japan’s greatest naval commanders. The castle stood on elevated ground overlooking Toba Bay and was unusual in that its most important gate, the main gate (Ōtemon), opened toward the sea. Today, the castle itself no longer remains; only the stone walls survive, and the area has been developed into a park. The ♡TOBA monument is a popular photo spot, and visitors can use a free AR/VR app to view what the castle once looked like.
